After many years of visiting Acadia National Park in Maine, looking in all the souvenir shops and scouring the internet, I noticed there were no high quality photography books about the park and realized there was a market for one. And with that inspiration, I set out to publish a coffee table book of my best images from ten years of photographing Acadia. From the outset, I wanted this to be an art photography book, not a souvenir book with snapshots of various locations around the park; there are already plenty of those in the Bar Harbor souvenir shops. No– I wanted every image to be a winner, which meant going through thousands of photos to select only the best ones, made in the best light and under the best conditions.
It also meant finding a book publisher that specialized in art photography books and wouldn't skimp on the printing, the binding and the quality of the images. It took a long time, but I eventually found one who exclusively publishes art books. I spent extra money on heavyweight paper to give the book a rich texture so that when you pick up the book, you’ll feel the quality even before you open it. In short, I wanted this to be the most beautiful book of Acadia photography ever published.
Yes, it’s more expensive than the souvenir books, but if you’re looking for a top quality, beautifully made book that you’ll want to hold onto for years, this is it.
