In the Garden
The English are famous for their gardens. Growing up in England, I had no interest in visiting them. But with the experience of age and a photographer's eye, I can finally appreciate the beauty that lies within the hedges. I've been fortunate to visit not only some of the more famous gardens (Sissinghurst, Mottisfont, etc), but also many private gardens whose owners have opened their gates to visitors one weekend of the year, to reveal what lies within.
I'm not sure why I find gardens so appealing now. Perhaps it's the peaceful atmosphere. Many of my images contain the ubiquitous garden bench. To spend a few minutes on one of these benches and soak up the beauty surrounding you is one of life's great pleasures. Perhaps it's also the stunning beauty of the way each gardener (or team of gardeners) arrange the flowers, benches, colours, hedges and footpaths in such a way that each view opens into another, even more sublime vista. Whatever the reason, relax for a few minutes, and enjoy the view.
