New Images/ Chicago
I went downtown with a friend a few days ago to photograph "Chicago-Henge," a phenomenon I don't think anyone thought about until recently. However, it happens twice a year, during the Spring and Autumn equinox, when the sun sets due west, right down the end of the road– in this case Lake Street. I shot with my medium format camera and was limited to just a 120mm (96mm D-SLR equivalent) lens. In retrospect, I should've brought a super telephoto and really gotten up close and personal with the scene.
Before the “Henge” shoot though, and after, we wandered the streets for a few hours searching for images of Chicago’s famed architecture, and we weren’t disappointed. One of my favorite buildings in the city is the Jeanne Gang-designed Aqua Building, which I’ve photographed several times over the last ten years. The undulating balconies are unique in Chicago and in my mind, it’s the most beautiful building in the city.
